Sony removes PSN obligation for PC version Helldivers 2 – Gaming – News

--

There will be no update for Helldivers 2, which will require PC players to create a PlayStation Network account. Sony PlayStation confirmed this on X. The company says it has listened to player feedback.

PlayStation writes https://twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1787331667616829929 that the May update for Helldivers 2 will not be rolled out. The company thanks players for the feedback and will keep the community informed of future plans. It is not clear whether an obligation will arrive at a later date.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced in early May that Helldivers 2 PC gamers will have to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. This measure was made mandatory and came into effect on May 6. By June 4, all Helldivers 2 PC gamers were required to have their accounts linked to PSN in order to continue playing. Sony wanted to better protect gamers against the misconduct of some players, but the decision had aroused a lot of resistance among Helldivers 2 players.

Last weekend it was also announced that Sony had removed the third-person shooter from Steam in 177 different countries. In these countries it is not possible to officially create a PSN account. It’s not clear if Helldivers 2 will be available again on these countries’ Steam store anytime soon.
