MediaTek has announced its new Dimensity 9300+ SoC. The model is intended for high-end smartphones, but is mainly an upgrade over the existing 9300. The new model mainly has a faster Cortex core and is partly intended to enable local AI.
MediaTek says the new 9300+ model is partly intended for AI tasks. The npu in the soc can be used with local large language models with about 33 billion parameters. MediaTek says the npu has support for a range of popular llms, including Google’s Gemini Nano and Meta’s Llama 2 and 3. The soc is the first from MediaTek to be made on TSMC’s 4nm process.
The biggest change of the 9300+ compared to the Dimensity 9300 that was released at the end of last year is that the model has a faster primary core. The Cortex X4 reaches a speed of 3.4GHz, compared to 3.25GHz in the previous model.
The other specifications remain largely the same. The SoC has three Cortex X4 cores running at 2.85GHz and four Cortex A720 cores with a speed of 2GHz. Furthermore, there is the same A790 APU and the same memory in the SoC. The IGPU is still the same Immortalis G720 MP12, but unlike the 9300 and in line with the 9200, the new Dimensity can shoot videos in 8k format at 30fps.
The Dimensity 9300+ is expected to be available for the first time in the vivo X100, which will be released later this month. The SoC must also be included in new iQOO devices.
