Sheraldo Becker, Ridgeciano Haps and Virgil Misidjan will be in action on Sunday evening. Not for Real Sociedad, Genoa or Al Tai, but for Suriname. The country will practice tonight in Almere against Martinique, which can be seen live on ESPN1. The three are not the only well-known names on the field of the Yanmar Stadium.

Several Eredivisie players have been called up: Djevencio van der Kust (Sparta Rotterdam), Justin Lonwijk (Fortuna Sittard) and Jahnilo Wiegel (PEC Zwolle). ADO Den Haag midfielder Dhoraso Klas was also called up by national coach Stanley Menzo, who himself played 322 matches for Ajax. The trainer could have called up even more players from Dutch competitions, but Shiloh ‘t Zand (FC Dordrecht), Kelvin Leerdam (Heracles) and Ché Nunnely (sc Heerenveen) were passed over.

Several Surinamese players played on Dutch pitches earlier in their careers, such as former Ajax player Stefano Denswil and former Feyenoord player Ridgeciano Haps. But also right back Damil Dankerlui, who played for Willem II and FC Groningen. Shaquille Pinas played more than 70 games for ADO Den Haag, just like Dion Malone. Kenneth Paal played for PEC Zwolle for three seasons, defender Myenty Abena played 29 games for De Graafschap and Luciano Slagveer played more than a hundred games for SC Heerenveen. Goalkeeper Warner Hahn played 63 for Heerenveen. Attacker Tyrone Conraad played for the other Frisian club, SC Cambuur.

Jeredy Hilterman was also called up, but the Willem II attacker decided not to join the Surinamese team. Tilburg residents will have been happy with that decision. Hilterman scored the opening goal against VVV Venlo on Saturday evening. Yanic Wildschut, former striker for PEC Zwolle and VVV Venlo, among others, was called up as his replacement.

Tonight Suriname will play a friendly match against Martinique. The match is part of the preparation for the World Cup qualifying, in which Suriname will meet El Salvador, Puerto Rico and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Suriname – Martinique can be seen live on ESPN 1 tonight from 6:52 PM.
