Anco Jansen was slightly disturbed by Arne Slot’s press conference on Thursday evening after the match between Go Ahead Eagles and Feyenoord. The coach of the current number two in the Netherlands was asked both before and after the match about his possible transfer to Liverpool. Slot emphasized not only how much he wants to make that step, but also how well he has done in Rotterdam South in recent years.
During the broadcast of Football talk on ESPN The latest news about Slot was of course discussed on Friday evening. Various media and journalists, including the very well-informed Fabrizio Romano, highlighted the agreement between Feyenoord and Liverpool on a transfer of Slot. The current number three in England is paying deep for the arrival of Feyenoord’s successful coach, who will close the door of De Kuip behind him after three years. He won the national title, the KNVB Cup in Rotterdam and reached the final of the UEFA Conference League.

Jan Joost van Gangelen is curious how Slot will fare in England, now that he will be surrounded by stars. Jansen thinks that Slot is made for that. “He’s smart though. I also think he is very good at assessing situations”, said the former footballer of FC Emmen and NAC Breda, among others. But Slot’s attitude during the press conference after Go Ahead Eagles – Feyenoord did not sit well with Jansen. “Yesterday (Thursday, ed.) I thought it was a bit too much. He immediately told me how well he had done. We all know that, of course it is true. But he was going to repeat that 28 times.”
Van Gangelen thinks that Slot did that because he had to keep his mouth shut for a ‘very long time’. Jansen doubts that. “I had the feeling that it was a way to put a little pressure on Feyenoord: listen, this has to be done”that’s what it sounded like.
