The A73 motorway has been closed in both directions at Vierlingsbeek since six o’clock on Monday evening and will remain so for the time being. The cause is a ‘major accident’ that happened near neighboring Venray, in North Limburg, the ANWB reports. The traffic information service has learned that seven cars were involved in the accident.

The police and Rijkswaterstaat could not yet confirm this. A spokeswoman for the Limburg police only said that she was aware of the accident and that one person was injured.

The spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat adds that the accident caused damage to the guardrails in the central reservation. This may have to be repaired later this evening. He also announces that two cars will be towed away by half past seven. The other cars are damaged to such an extent that the occupants can continue on their way. It is not clear how long the A73 will be blocked.

The accident happened in the direction of Nijmegen. After the severity became clear, it was decided to also close the road in the direction of Venlo to give emergency services space.

Traffic is advised to drive via Eindhoven and Oss (A67, A2, A50).
