The Groningen police have shared camera images of the graffiti on the Academy Building, the University Library and the Röling Building (rights) in the night of April 12 to 13. Three perpetrators can be seen in the images.
Slogans such as ‘From the river to the sea’, ‘Free Gaza’ and ‘Complicit: RUG’ were chalked on the buildings prior to the university’s Open Day. Windows were also smashed.
By releasing the images, the police hope to learn more about the identity of the perpetrators, who have shielded their faces from the camera images.
The images show that the three go about their business undisturbed between 4 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and apply pro-Palestinian slogans with red paint to the facades, stairs and landing.
Three times targeted
Cleaning crews spent days removing the paint. This proved especially difficult on the sandstone pillars of the Academy Building.
It was the third time that RUG buildings were targeted by pro-Palestine activists, who want the university to cut all ties with Israel and express support for the Palestinians. The University Library was also smeared at the end of November and mid-December. In December, the large windows at the front of the library were also smashed.
