Donald Trump paid 175 million dollars (163 million euros) in bail on Monday evening (local time) in his fraud case in New York. American media report this. With the payment, the former president prevents his property from being seized.

Trump initially had to pay a bail amount of $ 454 million, the full amount that his Trump Organization was fined for financial fraud. His lawyers informed the court of appeal that their client did not have that much money and that he could not get anyone to lend him the amount. The court then reduced the bail to 175 million. Trump had until April 4 to transfer the amount. His appeal against the verdict is still pending.

The bond is signed by an insurance company in California, Knight Specialty Insurance. It is not known what Trump has put up as collateral in exchange for the amount.

At the beginning of March, Trump paid bail of more than $91 million in the defamation case against writer E. Jean Carroll. The appeal against that verdict is still ongoing.
