Paris Saint-Germain is doing what it has to do and can still become champions today

--

Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of becoming French champions again. Luis Enrique’s team was too strong for Lorient on Thursday evening with 1-4. If AS Monaco loses points later in the evening in the home match against Lille OSC (9:00 PM), the title will be a fact.

Paris Saint-Germain went into the match against Lorient with an eleven-point lead over nearest attacker AS Monaco. If AS Monaco wins and loses points later in the evening, the team will no longer be able to avoid the twelfth national title in club history.

Championship fever or not, the first chance of the match came from the home team. Ayman Kari received the ball in a promising position in the enemy box and had time and space to take a swing, but saw his effort go past the left post.

Not much later it was hit on the other side. Ousmane Dembélé received the ball about 25 meters from goal, moved in and took an effective shot into the far corner after having left two opponents behind: 0-1.

PSG decided to end the game at that stage – halfway through the first half – through Kylian Mbappé. Three minutes after Dembélé’s opening goal, the captain used some fortune to reduce the margin to two.

Lorient, the penultimate team in the French league, limited themselves to defending and only came out sporadically. Tiemoue Bakayoko thought he could bring the tension back into the match, but his header was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In the second act the game image hardly changed. PSG looked for the third goal of the evening and got it after an hour of play, when Dembélé was again the end station of a Parisian attack.

The winger saw how Mbappé fooled his direct opponent, only to be able to tap in for an empty goal himself. Former PSV goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo was beaten for the third time.

Lorient did something back through substitute Mohamed Bamba, but it didn’t go any further than that: 1-3. Mbappé put the final score on the board in the final minute with an individual action: 1-4. This brings the Frenchman to 43 goals in 43 games this season. The big countdown can begin for Enrique’s team.
