Hilarity Sophie & Jeroen viewers about ‘penguin expert’ Patricia Paay

Patricia Paay joined us last night Sophie & Jeroen to talk about penguins. But viewers are quite surprised by her role at the table and wonder why she was brought in as a ‘penguin expert’.

The penguin is threatened with extinction and that is why, as presenter Jeroen Pauw calls it, a penguin brigade joined us. Consisting of NRCeditor Marcel Haenen, travel presenter Floortje Dessing and television face Patricia Paay. Because a penguin was named after Paay not so long ago.

Lack of food, climate change and now also bird flu. Haenen is concerned about it. And according to Dessing, penguins are threatened by our human existence. “It is unpredictable what we as humans have done.”

Two penguins at Blijdorp Zoo are named after Paay and her husband. Paay says he is an animal lover and raised a few hundred thousand euros for Blijdorp. She loves the penguins and thinks they are ‘so much fun’. “It seems as if they carry the suffering of the whole world on their backs when they walk like this. Then it becomes human,” says Paay.

When Pauw asks whether the penguins listen to their names, Patricia and Robbert, this is not the case, according to Paay. “But there are people who keep them at home. And then of course they will listen to you just like other animals.” But the Sophie & Jeroen-tafel looks somewhat doubtful at that comment.

“They have no hands, no arms and they cannot fly,” Paay summarizes about the animals.

Amazement among viewers

Haenen calls on everyone to put something in a penguin shape in front of the window today. Today is World Penguin Day. Then it is Jeroen van der Boom’s turn to sing a song about this subject. He had to make a song with the words penguin, Antarctica and South Pole. Van der Boom was at the table to promote his show the Piano Bar. A show in which he plays requests from the audience. That’s why he now also received the penguin request.

The men of Today Inside had a good laugh in their talk show about Van der Boom’s song, which he performed with great dedication and drama. Van der Boom himself already said that one should not expect too much from it.

Viewers thought it was quite a special scene. Because besides Van der Boom’s song, a lot of viewers didn’t actually understand what Patricia Paay was actually doing at the table.
