TOUGH! Shoe fashion from Helmond is in the running for Shoe Store of the Year. You can still vote for this shoe store for the ModeWinkel Awards until April 30. At the time of writing, the Helmond store that specializes in children’s footwear is in first place in both the national and provincial categories. Owner Mariette Jansen hopes for the win: “This year we are blowing out fifteen candles, so winning the award for the nicest shoe store would be a nice reward!”

The public can vote for STOER until next Tuesday! Shoe fashion. Jansen’s customer base and co-owner Conny Slaats are already busy with this. “We received a lot of votes and are in first place. That is the most recent score. We will get a new overview next Friday. It is close, because the difference between first and second place is about fifteen votes,” says Jansen.

This provisional first place is partly due to various app groups that voted passionately for the Helmond store. “We are in the first place among Brabant shops and we are also in the first position nationally as a shoe store. We are very proud of this and we are very grateful to our customers.”

Nice suprice
The ModeWinkel Awards were devised to support local fashion stores. Small retailers have to compete with large fashion chains and web shops. Finding staff is also not easy. Last year, 2,000 stores closed because they could not find successors. Presenting awards should provide more traction for small entrepreneurs.

The nomination was a surprise for Jansen. A nice surprise. “What is our secret? I think we are still one of the few shoe stores for children. There are few of these types of specialist cases left. We also have a large collection and our customers come from all over Brabant. Why? Because people feel well served and it is always pleasant here.”

Nice reward
Taking home the win would be great for Jansen and her team: “This year we are blowing out fifteen candles, so winning the award for the nicest shoe store would be a nice reward. Although we are of course also happy with the second prize.”
