It took a while, but from Tuesday the United Kingdom will carry out customs checks on products brought into the country by truck. It is a consequence of the ‘hard Brexit’, where the UK left the EU and was subsequently unable to reach a deal that did not restrict trade.
Why is this important?
With the hard Brexit, the British government wants to be able to decide for itself which goods will be allowed into the country. Food safety is being tackled strictly, with major consequences.
