The latest winter sports news every day

Starting today you can take a very special ride in Zermatt. A new lift has been in operation at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise since November 2023, and more have been added in recent weeks. From today you can take the Rooftop Ride between Zermatt and Furi. This is a roof terrace on top of a gondola.

Rooftop Ride in Zermatt

Today the Rooftop Ride in Zermatt is put into use for the first time. The lift between Zermatt and Furi is open daily and for an extra CHF 10 you can also go up with this ‘convertible gondola’. During a ride with the Rooftop Ride you stand in the open air and therefore on top of the gondola. A unique experience! Each ride with this Rooftop Ride can be booked for 15 people.

Lift as a complete experience

In more and more ski areas, ski lifts are getting something extra. They are experts in this in Zermatt. You can even book an entire hitchhiking trip from Switzerland to Italy and vice versa in the region. The Alpine Crossing is a lift connection between the two countries. All holidaymakers who come to Zermatt or Breuil-Cervinia and do not necessarily want to ski can take a ride in this unique attraction. The special crossing does come with a hefty price tag. Ticket prices are dynamic and therefore depend on various factors per season. You quickly pay an amount of around €200 for the crossing.

Unique ski lift in La Plagne

There will also be a new attraction in La Plagne: a gondola that is completely open. At the Glaciers ski lift you can take two minimalist gondolas up the mountain to an altitude of 3080 meters from July. This offers a whole new experience for holidaymakers. From July 8, 2024, you can board one of the two gondolas that are completely open, without windows. The name of the experience is Aerolive. Read more here ›
