Bujor and Stefan Puica, the two Romanian brothers who killed Valentin Popa after a car sale gone wrong, now face prison sentences of 25 and 30 years. An effective prison sentence was also requested for their six compatriots – who went with them to Opwijk.

On Tuesday evening, Bujor and Stefan Puica were found guilty of manslaughter and murder of Valentin Popa, respectively, after the jury deliberated for eleven hours. After a discussion about a car deal that escalated completely, the brothers deliberately killed him.

On Thursday morning, the brothers were told what punishments the public prosecutor is demanding for those facts. He asked for a prison sentence of 25 years for Bujor. His younger brother Stefan himself risks a prison sentence of 30 years.

“He has problems with his conscience,” said the prosecutor. “After the facts, he also acted rationally. He changed his appearance and had a fake ID card. In this way he tried to fully influence the investigation. He did show regret here, but only after three years.”

Gang formation

‘Puica’s gang’ – the six friends who went to Opwijk on June 2 – also risk prison sentences. They were all found guilty of gang formation on Tuesday evening. Daniel D. and Razvan C. risk three years in prison. Two years in prison were requested for Constantin V., Marcel N. and Dimitru S.. Pavel R. – who turned himself in to the police and cooperated in the investigation – risks a lighter sentence of 15 months.
