Laura was reported missing last Wednesday with her husband Marc (77). The Belgian couple has been living in Tenerife for sixteen years, several Belgian media write.

Man still missing

The photos and description of the two were posted on the Spanish website CNDES, the National Center for Missing Persons.

The status of Laura’s missing person report changed the day before yesterday, she was said to have been located. Now it appears that she was found dead, in a gruesome condition. The Spanish police say they are certain she was murdered. Husband Marc is still missing.

It is unclear what happened to Laura, and whether her husband had anything to do with it is also a mystery. Acquaintances and friends of the couple have stated in Belgian media that they are shocked by the news. “We could never have suspected this. There was nothing to indicate such a dramatic outcome,” a friend of the couple told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. “The news has the entire island in its grip.”

Investigation posters

“That is correct,” says Spain correspondent Richard Hogenkamp. “Residents of the island are also reminded of this all the time by search posters.” Through these posters, the police also hope to encourage people to look out for the Belgian couple’s car. That one is also missing. Marc and Laura had a dark blue Opel Mokka and that is a special feature on the island. The hope is that if the car is found, it will provide new leads.
