The man who was found dead on Wednesday morning in the Zuid-Willemsvaart in Erp is former boxer Errol Parris. The former Ossenaar drove along the canal on Tuesday evening and probably became unwell.

According to Parris’ lawyer Gitte Stevens, the former No Surrender member had an accident in Roosteren before. From there he was taken by ambulance to Maas en Kempen Hospital in Maaseik, Belgium. However, after a medical examination, Parris was allowed to go home.

When he got home, his wife noticed that Parris was confused. In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday he took her car and drove away. From that moment on, nothing more was heard from Parris. The next morning his body was found in the Zuid-Willemsvaart, after dredging in the canal.

Stevens emphasizes that she will inquire at the hospital in Maaseik. “I want to know how that went there,” she says. “How can you just let someone go home in that situation?”

52-year-old Parris had a boxing gym near Oss West railway station. He lived there until he recently moved to Maaseik. Parris leaves behind his wife and two children.
