The science fiction series ‘Flashforward’ was canceled after one season, but clearly deserved more.

Sometimes series don’t get the chance to really get off the ground and are quickly forgotten. This was the case of the science fiction series Flash forward which was canceled after one season. It was created by Brannon Braga and David S. Goyer and is based on the 1999 book of the same name by Canadian science fiction writer Robert J. Sawyer.

Flash forward was shown on television in the United States on the ABC channel from September 2009 to May 2010. In the Netherlands, the series was also shown on TV on the channel Veronica. Flash forward opens with nine main characters played by Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Sonya Walger, Jack Davenport and Courtney B. Vance, among others.

Story

Flash forward revolves around the lives of several people when a mysterious event causes everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for two minutes and seventeen seconds. During this blackout, everyone has a vision of what will happen to them in exactly 6 months, a global flashforward.

A team of FBI agents from Los Angeles, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and led by Mark Benford (Fiennes), begin to investigate what happened and whether it could happen again in the future. Benford saw some of the outcome of the investigation during his vision and can therefore steer the team in the right direction. He and his team use the clues from his vision for their current investigation. In the meantime, the things people have seen in their vision increasingly determine their daily lives.

Cancelled

Despite its intriguing story and strong start, Flash forward wrongly placed in a timeslot typically reserved for family-friendly programming, leading to cancellation after its promising debut season. It also didn’t get enough views, which was one of the reasons for the cancellation.

The season finale was shot before it was announced that the series would be canceled and ended with revelations about the origins of the blackout, leaving some questions unanswered. Flash forward deserves another chance to continue his story, especially after it ended with another blackout and visions that reach even further into the future. Many fans of the series were disappointed that the series was over after one season and many believe that the series deserves another chance.
