Arjan Lock: ‘Stopping NPO 3 can be discussed under certain conditions’

--

There is talk about the abolition of Netherlands 3 if the released money is invested in accelerating the digital transition of public broadcasting. This is what Arjan Lock, Chairman of the Board of the EO, and also chairman of the College of Broadcasters, says in an interview with Spreekbuis.

The public broadcaster is ready to take major steps in the reorganization process. He is in favor of reducing the large number of (independent) broadcasting organizations to a maximum of 7 units, so that administrative pressure can be reduced. Within these units it must be possible to say goodbye to broadcasters that no longer comply and to admit new ones. The continued existence of the old broadcasters is no longer self-evident; they will have to prove themselves again to retain a place in the system. Voters on the right side of the political spectrum should be better served, he believes, for example by giving Ongehoord Nederland more space, provided that this broadcaster adheres to the rules that apply to the public system. Recent research by the EO shows that a quarter of Christian voters vote for the PVV. In his opinion, the public broadcaster cannot ignore this.

In the Spreekbuis interview, the chairman of the College of Broadcasters looks back on the past months and outlines the broad outlines for a new system.
