Leo does not really understand what is bothering the neighbor, because she often has the shutters closed. “I can decide when I close my shutters,” says Anna angrily. Brand wonders how things could go so wrong. “She hates foreigners,” says Leo. Anna becomes very angry. “You don’t portray me as a racist, because I’m not. That’s what you make of it. If Dutch people had lived here, I would have done exactly the same.”

Leo explains why he thinks so. “She said she doesn’t want to be a good neighbor.” She allegedly said that to the previous resident. At that moment Master Visser drives up. When he is parking, Anna becomes emotional. “Why are you getting so emotional?” Brand asks. “Is it because of that racism story?” Anna nods.
