A train in Schoonbeek, Belgium, rammed into a car on Thursday afternoon. Images of the incident show that the driver has time to drive away, but panic does not succeed. The woman survived the collision and is not in critical condition.

The driver of the Mercedes got stuck between the closed barriers at around 3.30 pm. On the images you can see and hear how a man walks to her car, lectures her and tells her to drive on. “Go on now!” He also tries to help her because a dangerous situation has arisen. Next to the closed barrier is a roadblock that completely blocks the woman’s passage. The man moves it so that the woman can still drive away.

But surprisingly, she fails to do so, possibly because her car is parked. Not much later, her car is hit by the oncoming train. The man, who films everything, then walks up to the wreckage and asks why she didn’t drive on. Crying, she admits that this did not work.

Emergency services free the woman from her car. She is taken to hospital in Genk, but miraculously has no life-threatening injuries.

Due to the accident, train traffic between Hasselt and Tongeren was halted for a while. The passengers on the train, including 24 schoolchildren, were evacuated by buses.
