The family of six lost their way in the woods near Mount Hood, Oregon, last Tuesday. The victims were adults aged 19, 32, 47 and 52, and two children aged 9 and 11. They couldn’t call for help because there was no phone signal.

Fortunately, they managed to send a message with their location via a satellite using the SOS emergency notification on their iPhone. Rescue services were notified around 7:30 PM local time and then responded. However, it took a long time to reach the family due to the difficult terrain, heavy snowfall and fallen trees. A helicopter could not land in the area so an excavator and snowmobiles had to be deployed.

The family was located around 6 a.m. the next morning. Police said they were cold and dehydrated, but otherwise fine. During their wandering, the family members had walked about 13 kilometers and were at an altitude of more than one kilometer.
