A 21-year-old young man cut off his 37-year-old brother’s thumb last weekend. The two got into an altercation that escalated into a hacking match.
On Saturday, March 23, 2024, around 4:40 PM, the police at Bureau Nieuwe Haven received a report from a concerned father that his two sons were involved in a hacking party and that one of them was already at the Emergency Department for medical assistance.
At the ER, the police found 37-year-old Melvin, M. who stated that he had visited his mother at her workplace, when his 21-year-old brother Silviano, H. also arrived at the scene. They had an altercation with each other that escalated into the hacking match.
Silviano took a hack from his moped and ran after Melvin. On that occasion, Silviano waved several times in Melvin’s direction, resulting in Melvin’s right thumb being cut off and him also being left with an open cut wound on his upper arm.
Silviano was arrested on Sunday by RBT-Paramaribo and taken to the police station.
At his arraignment he admitted to having committed the act, after which he was taken into custody after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. The case is being investigated by the Nieuwe Haven police.
