Supermarkets in Norway are currently experiencing a shortage of eggs. Norwegians have therefore crossed the border en masse to stock up on eggs for Easter in Sweden.
A shopping center in Sweden was full of “desperate Norwegians” trying to stock up on eggs on Thursday, the Norwegian news site reported Nettavisen.
At a Swedish supermarket just across the border, demand was so great that the store only provided three packs of twenty eggs per household. Another store was completely out of eggs.
Due to concerns about overproduction, Norwegian farmers were offered compensation to reduce their egg production. That arrangement and bird flu have led to a shortage of eggs.
Now that Easter is almost here, the prices of scarce eggs have skyrocketed. Norwegians therefore try to get eggs in Sweden, where they are a lot cheaper.
