The relaxation of the law comes more than a year after three students and three adults were killed in a shooting at a school in the capital Nashville.

After the shooting, several demonstrations against gun ownership took place in the state. Democratic members of the House of Representatives were suspended, among others, because they had participated in a protest against gun ownership.

Democrats against new law

The Democrats are therefore not happy with this new law. They believe that this new law actually makes the situation in schools less safe.

However, due to the overwhelming majority of Republicans in the House of Representatives, they did not stand a chance in voting for the law.

Several American media report that students and parents have also protested against the measure.

Signing formality

Officially, the law still needs to be signed by Republican Governor Bill Lee, but that appears to be just a formality.

Lee has often indicated that he is open to such a measure and will most likely not use his veto to block the law.
