A police official stated during a press conference that the 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital and died a short time later. The other victims are two civilians and two police officers who responded to a report of the incident in the London suburb of Hainault, near the metro station of the same name.

“Just before 7 a.m. we received a call that a car had crashed into a house. Then followed the stabbing. The man targeted two police officers and some random passers-by,” the police said.

Images show how an officer tries to approach the perpetrator with the necessary caution. One of the victims is now lying on the ground. The officers have ‘significant injuries’ and require surgery. The entire neighborhood was cordoned off and the metro station is closed indefinitely.

Motive unknown

The suspect’s motive is not yet known. The police do not think there is terrorism or a targeted attack. There is also no search for other suspects. The investigation into the stabbing is still in its early stages, the police official said.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect by tasering him. The arrest took place 22 minutes after the first report to the police, the police official said during the press conference. He declined to answer the question of whether the man had been arrested before.

‘Shocking’

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom describes the violence as ‘shocking’. “My thoughts are with those involved and their families,” he writes on X. “Such violence has no place on our streets.” He announces extra patrols to reassure people, writes the BBC. Home Secretary James Cleverly also expressed his condolences to all involved at X. He calls the boy’s death ‘heartbreaking’.

British King Charles also expressed his support for the victims and relatives of the stabbing. “In particular the family of the young victim who lost his life,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said ITV News. “Following the horrific scenes in Hainault this morning, the King has asked to be kept fully informed as the details of the incident become clearer. His thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. And he praises the courage of the emergency services who helped bring the situation under control.”

Mayor Sadiq Khan of London said in a statement that he was ‘devastated’ by the events of Tuesday morning. A Sky News reporter described the area where the stabbing took place as residential and ‘relatively safe’.
