Police have cordoned off a street in Hainault

NOS Newstoday, 12:40Amended today, 4:50 PM

A man with a sword has attacked people on the street in northeast London. A 14-year-old boy was killed, police reported. Four people are injured in hospital.

The suspect allegedly drove a car into a house in the Hainault suburb this morning. He got out with a sword and attacked two police officers and several people on the street.

A 36-year-old man was overpowered by officers with an electroshock weapon. The police do not think it was an act of terror and say the man acted alone. Nothing further is known about his motive.

A witness told Sky News that one of his neighbors was handed a phone by the suspect and “had to give his location to the person on the other end of the line”.

According to the witness, the 36-year-old suspect then pulled a sword from the back of his pants. He then saw how the 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death. “I’ll never forget that boy’s face.”
