The best LEGO books to read now

--

Most people will mainly build LEGO, but the hobby sometimes goes a bit further. For example, if you want to learn more about LEGO, there is a lot of official print material you can peruse. We have listed some nice books.

In Focus

Once you’ve put together a LEGO model, it’s fun to display it somewhere nice. For many people that will be a shelf somewhere in the house. But LEGO is also a great subject for photography for many fans.

In the book In Focus you can admire a number of nice photos from 50 different photographers. LEGO buildings and figures can be seen in it as if they belong in our world. Maybe they suddenly seem very big, or just like gnomes exploring our world. It makes for some really nice pictures.

LEGO Minifigure A Visual History

The LEGO minifigure can only be described as iconic. It now has quite a history. You can now read this in the book A Visual History.

In this book you can see, for example, what kind of headgear and clothing minifigures have worn. No fewer than 2000 figures from 1978 to the present are highlighted in this book. Of course, that entails a lot of information.

Botanical Almanac

In recent years you can build a lot of flowers and plants from LEGO. Plastic flowers have never been so much fun. The flower lover can now also learn about flowers with the Botanical Almanac.

It looks quite similar to traditional guides to flowers and plants, but instead of faithful illustrations, the pictures are LEGO models. You can of course recreate them if you want, even if they are not (yet) included in an official set in the Botanical Collection.

The LEGO Ideas Book

Many LEGO builders will follow a set’s instructions. But of course you can also see for yourself what you can make from a pile of stones. Of course you need some inspiration for that.

You can find them in the LEGO Ideas Book. The title may make it seem like a book about the LEGO Ideas program, but in reality it’s full of ideas of what you can build. There are complete models, but also suggestions on how to use certain stones and initial designs that you can adjust to your own liking. You might become a skilled LEGO builder in no time.

The Force of Creativity

This year, LEGO Star Wars turns 25 and that is being celebrated in different ways. For example, there are special minifigures and a new edition of the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary. But if you want to read more, you can also go for The Force of Creativity.

That book has not yet been published, but it delves into the history of LEGO Star Wars in much more detail than the Visual Dictionary. For example, in the earlier book there are many pictures of final sets with text and explanations. In The Force of Creativity you delve much more behind the scenes and see how a set or minifigure is created. The book is of course about Star Wars, but there will undoubtedly be a part that also applies to other LEGO themes.
