DRAGON – Mrs Elzinga was the first to receive the keys to her new home on Stationsweg in Drachten on Wednesday. She received the keys from Elze Klinkhammer, director of housing association Accolade and Jan van der Meer, general manager of contractor VDM Woningen.

“I am very happy with the house. I now live closer to my daughter and to get to the shops I only have to cross the street,” says Mrs. Elzinga.

Energy efficient living

The houses are fully electric. They have a garden and a storage room and two bedrooms on the first floor. There is a bathroom with a second toilet. The rent is below the social housing allowance limit. Elze Klinkhammer says: “There is a huge demand for social and energy-efficient homes. I am therefore very happy that we can welcome these eight new tenants. Mrs. Elzinga wanted to live smaller. She rented a family home from us with four bedrooms. That will come now available for a larger household. So a win-win.”

Building with speed

VDM Woningen is a developing contractor that largely produces its timber system construction homes in the industrialized factory in Drogeham. As a result, a shorter construction time is required at the construction site. ‘That is a major advantage of our construction method, especially in inner-city new construction such as here on Stationsweg. That is really nice for the local residents,” says Jan van der Meer of VDM Woningen.

Good communication

Local residents could stay informed about the project via www.bouwbuur.nl. This way they knew when a certain part of the street was less accessible, for example. Close to the Stationsweg, VDM Woningen is building another seventeen houses on behalf of Accolade aan De Tuinen. These homes are expected to be ready before the summer.
