AMSTERDAM (ANP) – Operational director Dennis Besems is resigning from the Blokker retail chain. In recent months, general manager Jeanine Holscher and financial director Allard Visser also left the store chain.

Blokker confirms the departure of the three, which was announced by RTL Nieuws, but does not want to comment further. Blokker suffers a significant loss. Owner Mirage Retail Group may want to sell the store chain.

“Things are going very fast,” says retail expert Paul Moers. “If three directors abandon a company so soon after each other, that is not a good sign. Certainly not for a company that urgently needs money.” Possible new financiers will now think twice, says Moers.

Disagreement

The departure could indicate a disagreement with owner Mirage Retail, says Moers. “The big question is what to do next. Who wants to get burned by this?” Despite the problems the company is in, there is still no plan in place, according to him. “The previous management was mainly concerned with navel gazing. Of course, the market situation is not easy. But competitors such as HEMA and Action do have a clear strategy and do make a profit.”

Moers is gloomy about the future of the store chain. “While the brand name is very well known. Blokker also sells products that people are really waiting for. If Blokker does not survive, it would be a loss for the shopping street.”

Owner Mirage Retail recently reported that it was having “constructive discussions” with “a select group of possible buyers” for Blokker. Mirage says it is doing “everything it can to safeguard the continuity of Blokker.”
