Volkswagen is pulling the curtains on a new concept model at the Beijing Auto Show. A beautiful SUV that we will never see (as a production version). And that’s not because it’s a study model.
The Volkswagen bears the name ID.Code. The model is not aimed at Europe, but is a precursor to what customers in China can expect from the Wolfsburg brand.
You will never see Volkswagen’s new design language
This Volkswagen ID.Code is not a crystal ball for a single model. The car presents a new design language that will be applied to many models in China. Sorry, a lot. The Volkswagen ID. family will consist of sixteen models by 2030. There is even a special sub-brand being created for China called ID.UX. That sub-brand will debut in 2027 and will include five models.
Furthermore, twelve new models with a fuel engine and six new hybrids will be released until 2030. In short, Volkswagen will release 34 cars in 6 years on the largest car market in the world.
Volkswagen is also working on a platform called CMP. No, they are not going to collaborate with Stellantis. On the contrary, while Stellantis wants nothing to do with China, Volkswagen will build a China Main Platform (CMP). The brand collaborates with brands from the Asian country for the Chinese market. Some Chinese models will even use technology from Xpeng.
