Cow dances canceled due to measures after a huge fire

--

Hundreds of visitors were expecting farmer Jasper Spierings and his wife Afke this Saturday at the Oijenseweg in Oss. Their cows were supposed to go out to pasture for the first time this year today. An event that always attracts a lot of people to their company. But the ‘cow dance event’ was canceled due to the fire at the Vice Versa distribution company in Oss.

“Unfortunately, but that’s how it is,” Jasper responds. “There is still a lot that is unclear and unknown about the fire in Oss. The advice from the Safety Region is to keep animals indoors for a while. So we are doing that.”

The intense fire released soot particles and pieces of solar panels. They ended up in the area. According to the municipality, they are not dangerous in themselves, but they can be sharp.

Local residents were therefore advised not to pick up soot particles in their garden with their bare hands, but with gloves, and to wash their hands afterwards. Larger particles must be reported to the municipality of Oss. In addition, dog owners are advised to be careful when walking their dog. “Don’t let them eat soot particles!”

“The cows really knew what was going to happen.”

In addition, farmers in the area were asked to keep their livestock indoors for the time being to prevent them from ingesting soot particles while grazing.

No solar panel and soot particles ended up on Jasper and Afke’s pasture because the wind is in the other direction. But Jasper responds to the request. Although he thinks the cancellation of the ‘cow dancing’ is a shame. “We usually make this a fun event. Now we canceled it early in the morning. Fortunately, we were able to reach many people in time, so that they would not be here for nothing. They had been looking forward to it for so long. Because it has rained so much, it is already late in the year for us to let the cows out into the pasture.

But it’s most unfortunate for the cows, he emphasizes. “We had put the fences behind the stable and then they started howling a bit. They really knew what was going to happen.”

“New date will be announced as soon as possible.”

A new date for the ‘cow dancing’ has not yet been set. “But that will happen as soon as possible. As soon as we can, we will let the cows outside. It’s just nice to invite the public. Now it’s a holiday. It could soon become a weekday. But we We will do our best to plan it for an afternoon, so that people with children can still come and watch.”
