The efficient Airbus A350 is in high demand. In recent months, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines, among others, placed large orders, and on Thursday the Indian IndiGo – where the Dutch Pieter Elbers is in charge – reported that thirty copies are being ordered.

In the Netherlands, only Corendon Dutch Airlines currently flies it, because they wet-lease an aircraft from the Spanish World2Fly. But from 2026, KLM and Martinair will also include the A350 in their fleet. KLM is replacing the Airbus A330s and Boeing 777-200ERs with this aircraft, and Martinair is using the freight variant to replace its 747s.

Quarterly figures
Airbus seemed to benefit significantly from the increased demand for air travel in the past quarter. Turnover increased by 9 percent year on year to more than 12.8 billion euros. The lion’s share of this came from the commercial aircraft division, more than 9.1 billion euros. Revenues from this increased by 13 percent.

Bottom line, a net profit of 595 million euros remained, 28 percent more than in the first three months of 2023.

Airbus continues to maintain its previous guidance for this year, assuming “no further disruptions to the global economy, air traffic, the supply chain, the company’s internal operations and its ability to deliver products and services.” On this basis, Airbus expects to deliver approximately 800 commercial aircraft this year.

At major American competitor Boeing, the results, which were published on Wednesday, looked very different. The company’s net loss in the first quarter amounted to 355 million dollars, equivalent to 333 million euros. Turnover for the months of January, February and March also fell by 8 percent to $ 16.6 billion. This was partly because the production process was slowed down in order to make improvements.
