An American cat has been found in good health after it jumped into a box and was accidentally sent through the mail. A postal worker found her in a warehouse in California, hundreds of miles from her home in Utah.

A Utah couple was puzzled when their cat Galena suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago. A week later, she was found in an Amazon warehouse in California, hundreds of miles away.

In the warehouse it turned out that she had accidentally been sent with a return package. Galena was in good health, despite having been deprived of food and water for six days. The Amazon employee took the animal to a veterinarian in Los Angeles.

The vet scanned the cat’s microchip before calling the owners to explain what had happened. “At first I didn’t believe her and thought it was a joke,” owner Carrie Clark told local media. Clark and her husband then flew hundreds of miles west to pick up their pet. “When I held my cat back in my arms, she stopped shaking and calmed down right away,” says Clark.

Galena has a penchant for boxes and is good at hiding, Clark says. The fact that her cat was gone and she had no idea what had happened was “unbearable” for her.

Ultimately, a crack in the box saved Galena. This allowed her to continue breathing. And she was lucky with the weather, because she did not become hypothermic or overheated.
