Thanks to huge discounts, the Fisker Ocean can now be purchased for remarkably little money. The question is whether it is a smart purchase. It turns out that even the smallest dent can cause your Ocean to be declared a total loss.
There’s shit going on at Fisker. Financial difficulties forced the brand to lay off employees and shut down the factory. It also turned out that the start-up accidentally gave away its electric cars for free.
Angry Fisker Ocean customer shares her story
The bad news show doesn’t stop there. In the United States, a Fisker Ocean was declared a total loss by an insurer due to a simple dent, resulting in an angry customer. She shared her story with the website Carscoops.
After someone damaged the open car door of American Joy Wanner, she went to her insurer. After all, the dent in the door panel and the broken hinge had to be repaired. Normally a simple job, but it turned out completely differently.
Fisker Ocean declared a total loss after minor damage
A damage repair company estimated the repair costs at around 850 euros, although the Ocean was a car unknown to them. That might still influence the price. However, the big problem turned out to be finding spare parts. According to Wanner, these could not be obtained anywhere, so her insurer felt forced to declare the EV a total loss.
For Joy Wanner, who waited two years for her car, this was the final straw. She is furious after an accumulation of problems. In a Fisker Ocean group on Facebook, she lists a number of frustrations: “Delayed delivery, poor documentation, the annoying warning lights and sounds, the unreliable navigation system and the cheap key.” Now she’s done with it. “I hope Henrik Fisker loses every dime he has and I wish the rest of you the best of luck.”
Parts supply for new car brands
In Europe, every manufacturer, including Fisker, is obliged to supply spare parts for at least ten years after leaving the market. In the event of bankruptcy (which Fisker now seems to be struggling with), this obligation does not apply and you as a consumer are left with the same consequences. Or in this case: a total loss declared Fikser Ocean.
