The Toyists have to move again to the Dennenoord site in Zuidlaren. The international art movement must make way for 35 Ukrainian refugees. The municipality of Tynaarlo and the mental health institution Lentis are still discussing refugee shelters. But the intention is for the Ukrainians to move in on July 1.

Spokespeople for Lentis and the municipality indicate that the refugee shelter in the Vredestein building has not yet been finalized. “Consultations are still ongoing,” they indicate.

But for the Toyists, the adventure in the former women’s pavilion is over after four years. Landlord Lentis has indicated that the building must be cleared before May 10. The artists have now been assigned a different location on the Dennenoord site.

By housing 35 Ukrainians in the Vredestein building, which is located at the back of the mental health care site, the municipality of Tynaarlo is creating a third reception location for this group of refugees. For about two years, 215 Ukrainians have been camping at the Eswal campsite in Vries and the Akenveen campsite in Tynaarlo. In Vries they live in hiker’s huts, and in Tynaarlo it concerns tiny houses. According to a municipal spokesperson, there are also 35 Ukrainians who are staying with private individuals.
