It is a new investigation into the aircraft manufacturer, which is already under a magnifying glass. Boeing itself informed the FAA about the inspections that were allegedly skipped by its own staff. The inspections were subsequently checked off in the systems.

The investigation into the Dreamliner comes after a report from Boeing itself to the FAA. The company discovered that “several” employees working on this device had skipped mandatory testing. This concerns checks whether the wings are correctly attached to the fuselage, the FAA reports in a statement to RTL News.

Reports falsified

The regulator will now investigate whether inspection reports have indeed been falsified, according to a statement from the regulator. “While the investigation is ongoing, the FAA will take all necessary actions – as always – to ensure the safety of passenger aviation.”

Boeing will re-inspect all aircraft that are still being worked on. The company must also come up with a plan for how it will treat the Dreamliners that are already in use, the American newspaper reports.

KLM: no additional inspections

In the Netherlands, KLM has 13 787-9s in its fleet. The airline ‘closely follows the reporting surrounding Boeing’, a spokesperson said when asked. “We are also in contact with both Boeing and regulators.”

“At this time, there is no need to conduct additional inspections of the 787s beyond normal thorough checks,” the spokesperson said. Suppose additional measures need to be taken, KLM will do that. “Safety comes first and in this way we can guarantee the airworthiness of the KLM fleet.”

Part lost during flight

The aircraft manufacturer has been in dire straits for years due to problems with the Boeing 737 MAX. For example, an Alaska Airlines example lost a side panel during a flight in January. The FAA is investigating this, as is the American Public Prosecution Service.
