BMW sold 594,533 cars in the first months of this year. That is 1.1 percent more than a year earlier. Electric cars in particular sold well. Partly due to higher production costs, the car company saw a decline in turnover and profit.

The German BMW, which also produces cars from the MINI and Rolls-Royce brands, sold almost 28 percent more fully electric cars. This means that 13.9 percent of BMW’s cars sold are now fully electric. Last year that share was still 11 percent.

The setback was the slump in motorcycle sales. BMW sold 46,434, 3 percent less than a year earlier.

The turnover that BMW achieved with car sales was slightly lower at 36.6 billion euros than in the same period last year. This was mainly due to negative exchange rate effects.

Bottom line, BMW also had less money left over. Profit before taxes even fell by 19 percent to almost 4.2 billion euros. According to the car company, this was mainly due to higher production costs.
