Action saw sales increase to 3 billion euros in the first quarter. That is almost 21 percent more than in the same period last year.

The retail chain owes its financial growth to 42 new branches. Without those stores, sales in the Netherlands and other countries would have grown by 9.8 percent.

Action has been working hard for years. In the first quarter of last year, total sales increased by more than a third compared to a year earlier.

In the first three months of this year, the prices of more than a thousand products have been reduced, the bargain chain claims. Last year, almost 2,500 products were already reduced in price.

Action mainly sells cheap stuff from China. The chain now has 2,608 stores in Europe. The group does not announce the profit figures for the first quarter.
