Sonos has given its app a major update with a major redesign and many users are not happy with that. Important functions are missing that were previously present. The company has now released a remarkable statement in response to the criticism.

Yesterday we wrote about the problems that Sonos users experience after the update. For example, the function that allowed you to play music from a Network Attached Storage (NAS), a storage device that you can access via your network, has been removed. This function will not return for the time being, which led to dissatisfaction among Sonos users with a NAS.

Yet relatively few people will notice this, because most users play music via streaming services. A problem that more people face is that after the update you can often no longer create or adjust alarms. There are also more complaints about the app.

This took courage

Sonos does not say sorry for these problems in a response, but comes up with a different statement. According to the company, such a major update to the app is very ambitious: “It takes courage to build a brand’s core product from scratch, and to do so knowing you may have to take a few steps back to ultimately be able to take a leap into the future.”

The company still supports the update, but says it is working on solving the problems. That should happen sometime in the coming months.

Back to the old version?

However, if you have installed the update, you will have to do without a few features until then, because you cannot uninstall it. Only if you use Android you could find an old version of the app on the internet and install it. Naturally, Sonos hopes that the updated app will ultimately be better than the previous version.

Sonos Ace and Roam 2 leaked

Earlier this week, two unannounced Sonos products were also leaked: the Sonos Ace, the brand’s first wireless headphones, and the new portable speaker, the Roam 2.
