To persuade more travelers to take the bus, metro or tram again, the GVB is offering day tickets for one euro this summer. The promotion only applies to people who work or live in Amsterdam. “For one euro you travel criss-cross through Amsterdam for 24 hours. You can’t park for that.”

That group of travelers has been traveling a lot less often by public transport since the outbreak of the corona virus. For the GVB, this has meant less money coming in for years. Because there will probably also be much less financial support from the government from 2023, it will be necessary for the transport company that the ‘disappeared’ travelers return quickly.

The day tickets normally cost 8.50 euros. By making them a lot cheaper now, the GVB hopes for a ‘renewed acquaintance’ with travelers from Amsterdam and the surrounding area. “We are getting more and more electric buses, brand new trams are driving, much has changed for the better in public transport in recent times,” says commercial director Ellen Swinkels. “Time to try public transport again for a whole day. For one euro you travel criss-cross through Amsterdam for 24 hours. You can’t park for that.”

Travelers who want to make use of the discount must request a code via the GVB website. To do this, they have to fill in certain information. One promotional code may be requested per combination of zip code and email address.
