Jurre Geluk moves with word of thanks after win Make Up Your Mind | RTL Boulevard

--

Jurre Geluk won the fourth season of the drag show Make Up Your Mind on Saturday. As Miss Showbee, the presenter managed to beat five other drag queens in the final. In his acceptance speech, he called for more protection for people from the LGBT+ community.

“I’m doing this for one evening now, but I think I’m a scaredy bastard in real life. I don’t dare walk hand in hand with my boyfriend on the street. And these ladies do this in their real lives. all the time,” Geluk said, referring to the drag queens on the program’s jury. “I think we are still missing that second step. We accept it, we tolerate it and make a nice TV program about it, but in the outside world we lack that protection. We have to protect people who are different, from our community, so let’s we take it further than this programme.”

Jury chairman Miss Envy Peru responded emotionally. “He just came in, Jurre. I was also attacked, purely as myself,” Peru said, referring to the assault on the street to which he was a victim last July. “It’s so bad that a lot of people don’t want to leave each other alone, don’t accept each other or are so mean to each other. We’re not hurting anyone, this is just our art. And there’s nothing wrong with that.”

In the RTL program, famous Dutch people are transformed into drag queens. The other finalists revealed their true identities earlier in the evening. Musical star William Spaaij hid behind Nikita and pollster Gijs Rademaker was behind the character Polly Plush. Presenter Harm Edens was hidden under Gladiola Holt’s wig, and Penny Smize was musical actor Stanley Burleson. Star Sissy, who was the second to last to lose weight, turned out to be the alter ego of actor Thomas Cammaert.

Previous seasons of Make Up Your Mind were won by Barry Atsma, Soy Kroon and Jeroen van der Boom.
