Boaz Kok (34) has been the proud father of daughter Kees for a month now. The pregnancy of his girlfriend Loes was a stressful period for the Goldband singer. There were also some rumblings in his band, as he explains in the podcast ‘V4der’ by Pepijn Lanen (41).

“That whole escalation there beforehand made it all ten thousand times more difficult”

Boaz has entered a completely new phase of life with the arrival of his first child. That was accompanied by ‘a lot of worries’ about the arrival of the baby, buying a house and his group Goldband. “That was a really spicy cake to eat,” said Boaz. “I’m not going to be very specific about it, but at one point we had a bit of a fuss in the studio too. So then it was like: yeah fuck, how are we going to solve this? Then at one point the solution was : let’s build in some kind of rest, take a little more time.”

With the decision to take a step back, Boaz had a weight lifted from his shoulders. “Then at least I don’t have to worry about work. I can focus fully on the house, on the child and on my girlfriend.” Boaz was not bothered by the ‘nonsense’ with his bandmates Karel Gerlach and Milo Driessen. “So that whole escalation there beforehand, that made it all ten thousand times more difficult. Besides your own family, that is also your family, right.”

For now, Goldband will perform at only one Dutch festival this summer: Lowlands. The men also play at Pukkelpop in Belgium and Sziget in Hungary.

Fortunately, Boaz, Loes and little Kees are doing well. During childbirth, the singer was “at the peak of my fever.” “So I was in a crazy fever dream in the hospital.”

Boaz announced to his mates in September during a Goldband performance that he is becoming a father. He is ‘curious to know who will be the next’ to have a child. Could it be Karel Gerlach and Maan? However, Boaz does not expect his joyful announcement anytime soon. “They are really still nice and loose,” he says about his friends.

Fortunately for their fans, the gentlemen from The Hague will give two more performances in the Ziggo Dome in the autumn, on November 8 and 9. They recently released their new song ‘You&Me’:
