Dieuwertje Blok has cancer in her nose and must undergo a nasal amputation. The 66-year-old presenter is resigning from her television work, she said in conversation with on Friday de Volkskrant.

“It started with me, like every other person, with my finger in my nose. At the beginning there was a very small hard spot that I thought was a wart,” says 66-year-old Blok. “The doctor thought so too, so he treated it with nitrogen, but it didn’t go away.”

The presenter actually did not want to share her story because she wants to remain in control. “With this interview I am preparing people for a big shock. It will take a while before I have a prosthesis, so it is better if everyone knows what is happening to me.”

Blok initially doubted whether she should have her nose amputated. “I have had my appearance with me for 66 years, now I have to undergo an operation that is disfiguring,” she says. The presenter now views this differently. “Now I think: go, get rid of that cancer. It was my nose or my life. And then there was no longer a moment when I wanted to choose my nose.”

The presenter wants to get her life back as quickly as possible. “I just won’t do TV. Probably never again.” Blok does hope to be able to make radio again soon.

Blok is best known for The Sinterklaas news. She has been presenting the program since 2001. NTR has informed the presenter that she is closing the door to The Sinterklaas news keep it open for her.
