Being so deeply engrossed in your own words that you become completely blocked and no words are put on paper: apparently it can also happen to the most famous writers. So is JK Rowling, the author of them all Harry Potter-books. In an interview with The Sunday Times she opens up about her writer’s block: “I completely froze because the first book was beyond my wildest dreams and I was in a panic. It only lasted a week, but I just couldn’t see my way forward. I was so overwhelmed.”
Harry Potter books
It took her seventeen years to get there Harry Potterseries to write. And that was not always easy. “It was a place I could escape to. So the idea that I could never escape there again was very difficult. It sounds bizarre, but I felt like I was free to fail. I’m free to write whatever I want, even if no one wants to read it.”
Transphobic statements JK Rowling
She recently came under controversy about her statements about trans people. For example, she wrote on X next to photos of famous trans women: “April 1st! The people I mentioned are of course not women, but just men.” Actor Daniel Radcliffe – who for years played the lead role of Harry Potter in the film adaptations of JK Rowling’s book series – says he is ‘saddened’ by her transphobic statements. He previously spoke about the writer in an interview with The Atlantic. “It makes me very sad. I look at the person I met, the times we met, the books she wrote and the world she created. That means a lot to me.”
