Reign until death

Being born into a royal family is something that many dream of. A life as a royal offers privileges that appeal to the imagination. Just ask Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, the eldest child of King Mohammed VI and Lalla Salma. He is named after his grandfather Hassan II, who ruled from 1929 to 1999. When Moulay Hassan succeeds his father, he will be crowned as King Hassan III. Moroccan kings never abdicate, but rule until their death. When King Mohammed dies, Moulay Hassan inherits not only the throne, but also the family fortune.

Fourth richest monarch in the world

According to business magazine Forbes, the king of Morocco was the richest king in Africa and the fourth richest monarch in the world in 2023, with a personal fortune of almost 2 billion euros. The total wealth of the royal family is estimated at more than 7.6 billion euros. A large part of this is reserved for Crown Prince Moulay Hassan: at the age of 20 he already has a fortune of around 937 million euros. The Crown Prince lives under conditions that most will never experience. He has his own wing in the Dar al-Makhzen Palace in Rabat, the official residence of the monarch and his family. King Mohammed and his family own twelve palaces, of which only four are in use. The operational budget for the palace amounts to more than 900,000 euros per day, according to Forbes. Surrounded by high walls, it hides two swimming pools, two golf courses, tennis courts, horse stables and beautiful gardens, and covers a total of 195 hectares. As heir apparent, Moulay has his own offices and court. There are dozens, sometimes hundreds of servants ready to serve him. These servants always travel with the crown prince, even abroad. The Moroccan heir to the throne travels in luxury: Moulay received a private jet from his father, a Gulfstream G650, which cost almost 63 million euros. This aircraft, one of the most expensive and powerful VIP jets, can fly 14,000 kilometers non-stop and can accommodate eight passengers and four crew members. To protect the future king of Morocco, an Israeli missile defense system has been installed on board at a cost of 18.7 million euros.
