Kevin Spacey will soon be back in court for an alleged sexual assault. The actor had previously been acquitted following an accusation by a British man. This man went to court, after which Spacey’s lawyers forgot to file a defense. Now the case comes up again.
The man claims he was sexually abused by the House of Cards actor in 2008. Spacey denies the allegations. The 64-year-old actor was charged in 2022 with nine sex crimes against four men between 2004 and 2013. He was acquitted in all cases last year.
Because Spacey’s lawyers did not file a defense after the man went to court, a default judgment was granted. That is a ruling in favor of the plaintiff without a trial. Adam Speker, a lawyer for Spacey, said it was an “honest mistake” by the actor’s legal team.
The judge ruled that that error should not be “passed on to the defendant” and reversed the earlier judgment and the default judgment. This means that there will be a completely new lawsuit. A precise date for the trial has not yet been reported, but the case will likely be heard in early 2025.
