Dutch actress Romana Vrede will soon play a major role in a foreign film for the first time. She can be seen alongside John Lithgow and Oscar winner Olivia Colman in the family drama Jimpa by director Sophie Hyde.
Filming recently started. Vrede’s management has confirmed the reports about the film role in foreign media.
Jimpa is about a woman (Colman) who, together with her non-binary teenager, visits her gay father (Lithgow) who lives in the Netherlands. The recordings partly take place in Amsterdam.

Director Sophie Hyde recently made her breakthrough with the well-received drama Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, about a retired widow (Emma Thompson) who hires a male sex worker. Jimpa will go on sale at the Cannes Festival film market next week. The film will be released in the Netherlands by distributor Cineart, although it is not yet clear when the premiere will be.
In 2017, Romana Vrede was the first actress of color to win the Theo d’Or, the most important Dutch theater prize. She was recently seen in series such as Santos, The Spectacular and Follow the STD.
