Theo moves experts with a homemade song for his deceased daughter in De Piano | RTL Boulevard

--

In The piano amateur pianists are invited to a station to perform their best on a beautiful grand piano. What they don’t know is that a panel of three musical experts – consisting of Roel van Velzen, Dominic Seldis and Daria van den Bercken – is listening.

Neither does Theo. He arrives at Arnhem station uninhibited. “Music is a guiding light in my life and I will always continue to do so until I really can’t do it anymore,” he says. Theo is going to play his own song, he announces. “This is a song I once wrote following the death of my eldest daughter,” he tells Chantal. Theo’s daughter died in 2019 from cancer. “That is of course a very intense event in your life.”

“It [lied] has helped me process it,” Theo continues, “but every time I sing and play it again… sometimes it rolls out and sometimes tears roll down my cheeks. I hope I can stay dry today.”

Theo succeeds. He sings and plays the song fantastically. The one who cannot keep it dry is the panel of experts who listen in at a secret location on the station. “A story like that doesn’t leave you completely unaffected,” says Daria.

“This hits you straight in the heart. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how good you are, because it works. That’s what music does to you,” says Dominic, who is moved to tears. He would like to give Theo a hug. “What was it like playing it here?” Chantal asks Theo afterwards. “Difficult,” he concludes.

The piano see you every Wednesday at 8:30 PM on RTL 4.
