Comedian Youp van ‘t Hek (70) was ‘very sad’ after he suffered a ‘short circuit’ in his head during a performance in Carré on Tuesday evening. He is now feeling better and jokes about the incident in his NRC-column. For example, about the reason why he can laugh again thanks to some of the people.

Van ‘t Hek classifies being ‘speechless’ in his ‘beloved Carré’ under the category of fleeting news events of the past week, just like the rogue royal horses in London and the fallen blades of Moulin Rouge. ‘God and Allah’ clearly targeted ‘superfluous side issues’ this week that make life more fun, he concludes.

The comedian lost his way on Tuesday in the famous Amsterdam theater and had to briefly stop his performance several times, according to visitors. He tried to continue playing, but eventually ended the show early because it was no longer possible. “The short-lived short circuit in my head initially made me very sad,” he now writes in his first response.

“But luckily the wappies quickly made me laugh again by suggesting on the internet that my memory failure was caused by my fascist corona vaccinations,” he jokes. ‘They pointed out to me the lumps in my brain caused by Pfizer. Normally the comedian entertains the people, but it is also fun when it happens the other way around. After all these reactions, I understand the waiting lists at the Mental Health Service better and better.’

‘Totally without memory’

Van ‘t Hek was back on Carré’s stage the next evening, when the show went smoothly, according to the theater. He still has twenty performances left on his farewell tour. ‘I have now recovered faster than Ajax and I am approaching my last twenty performances more cheerfully than cheerfully.’

He continues to joke about his failing memory. ‘Plenty to do’, he refers to the period after the last performance. ‘Reading, writing, traveling, laughing, crying, eating, drinking and, hopefully unexpectedly, dying a bit nameless. Perhaps completely without memory. That would be a shame, because I have a lot of happy memories that I hope to be able to live on for a long time. The cabinet formation, for example. Especially that duo of informants who escaped from Tintin makes me extremely happy.’

At the end of his column he already takes out his ‘orange yarmulke’, because Saturday is King’s Day. “If I don’t forget.”
