Britney Spears has reached a settlement in the legal battle with her father Jamie Spears, American media report. The settlement marks a definitive end to the case surrounding the guardianship of the singer after two years.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed. Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said in a statement that the singer’s wish to be free “has now truly been fulfilled”.
According to the lawyer, the 42-year-old singer no longer needs to be involved in lawsuits and procedures related to the handling of her father’s guardianship.
Spears had been under her father’s guardianship since 2008 – after a nervous breakdown in 2007. After diagnoses, it was determined that the singer would no longer be able to take care of herself well enough. That financial supervision came to an end in 2021, after a high-profile lawsuit.
