Transport Commissioner for the Province of Gelderland visits Leuth – HenkBaron.nl

--

In conversation with Village Agenda about solutions to dangerous traffic situations. On April 18, the Traffic & Safety Working Group of the Village Agenda Leuth consulted with various representatives from the municipality and the province of Gelderland about road safety in Leuth and the surrounding area. On behalf of the province, the deputy for Transport, Mr Klaas Ruitenberg, was present and councilor Ria Barber was present on behalf of the municipality of Berg en Dal. A number of policy officials also came to the Kulturhus in Leuth where the conversation took place. Afterwards, we walked a bit along the Steenheuvelsestraat to take stock of the situation on site. The administrators were here at the invitation of the Working Group to talk about the provincial N840: the dangerously busy Steenheuvelsestraat that runs straight through the village and about the situation on the Kapiteldijk. People often drive too fast on both routes, resulting in cars regularly falling off the dike. In 6 weeks, a car has already driven off the dike four times; For example, recently a truck ended up on the cycle path at the bottom of the dike, where fortunately no one was passing by at the time. The Working Group’s most important wishes are to reduce the maximum speed on Steenheuvelsestraat/Botsestraat to 30 km/h and on Kapiteldijk to 60 km/h. “There is currently an advisory speed of 60 km on the dike, but we would like to see this changed to a speed limit of 60 km. Further on, this speed is already applicable on the Duffeltdijk and it is also a more logical transition when a speed of 30 km applies on the Steenheuvelsestraat.” In addition, the working group would like to see crash barriers placed on the dike, at least on the side of the cycle path. In the autumn, the province will decide which roads in Gelderland are eligible for a speed change. We naturally hope that the province shares the concerns about Leuth’s road safety and will come to a positive decision. Village Agenda Leuth – Traffic & Safety Working Group.
